Set was purchased in the late 1990s when record was still producing the scissors in angle. It is high quality steel that can hold an edge and what marples used to be known for. It is not the irwin scissors with the marples brand that are made in China for the last 10 or 12 years. There was light rust and at the top end of the blades sitting unused in my father's shop for over 15 years.
I gently polished the blades with a soft wire wheel to remove the rust. I have not tried to restore such a new state. There is a slight discoloration and very, very light punctures on some of the blades, but this will not affect performance.
The bevelled ends are rust-free and have the original protective plastic covers on them. They even have a sparkle on them from the last time they were sharpened. There is only one noted edge in the set; a tiny gash on the cutting edge of the 1/2-inch scissor. They're sharp, but not scary strong. They're in the original box. It is in good condition, but there is a bit of gunk (wood filler paint something else dad used) on the lid.
