It is a serious wood framer tool. Coming in a total length of just over 33 inches, this 2.5-inch wide wooden framing slick will do the job. The smooth body measures 16 inches and the handle adds another 17.5 inches, so you can put your entire body weight into using this sturdy tool. The design I went with is old school and proven, with the high carbon steel cutting tip being welded forging on a soft steel body. The cutting edge is on the ground at 25 degrees and as flat as possible, but if you prefer a convex grind I can accommodate that as well. I shape the socket by drawing the steel into a fan shape, then roll it and forge the welding together.
Each handle is hand-turned from ash, hickory, or cherry and the tang socket is then whittled by hand to fit into the smooth socket comfortably. Every wooden framecloth is made to order, right here in my shop in rural virginia. I buy my steel locally and all the handle wood is grown and harvested locally as well. If you have any design features that you want to add or change let me know, I'm happy to do so.
